Our love for Asturias and why we know you will love it too!
Eighteen years ago, we first visited friends in Oviedo, the vibrant capital of Asturias. Something about the landscape, the people, the pace of life, it all stayed with us. We knew right then this region was special. A later trip to the coastal town of Llanes sealed the deal. Asturias had found a permanent place in our hearts, and we couldn’t wait any longer. Now we’re here, living, exploring, and slowly building a life in this magical corner of Northern Spain.
Asturias is part of Spain’s lush, green North, alongside Cantabria, Euskadi (the Basque Country), and Galicia. It’s a region of dramatic coastlines, misty mountains, deep traditions, and generous people. The food is unforgettable, the culture alive, and the pace of life grounded and real. Thanks to the Picos de Europa mountain range, the climate remains mild, even in summer, making it ideal for outdoor adventures or slow, scenic days.
What we love most is how Asturias offers a different kind of luxury:
Space. Simplicity. Local life.
Whether you’re hiking, swimming in hidden coves, or sipping Sidra (cider) in a tiny village square, it’s a place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeper, and connect with nature, with history, with yourself.
We created Casa Mariquina as a peaceful home base for curious travelers, located right in the heart of it all, between the mountains and the sea. You'll find more details about the vacation rental here.
We also offer private, small-group tours and curated experiences—designed to share the spirit of Asturias in an authentic and personal way. Learn more about our tours here.
If you're curious, you're in good company. Welcome to our little corner of Green Spain.
